Grant History.

The Board of Directors of Children Can Shape the Future is proud to announce the 2008 First Cycle Traditional Grant Request award winners.  This year's grantees exemplify CCSF's dedication to supporting community education programs developed and executed from within the Camden and Philadelphia communities.

Boys Latin of Philadelphia Charter School.  $25,000.  Boys Latin is a college preparatory high school that serves Philadelphia boys of diverse backgrounds with an emphasis on achievement, character development, and age-appropriate conduct.  CCSF's grant supports the development of a Library Media Center at the school.  The center will host a small print collection and an abundance of electronic resources.  Not only will the center be accessible to students and staff, but it will also be open to the local community during the summer and two Saturdays each month.  This type of work speaks to CCSF's mission of supporting school programs that develop technology skills while at the same time providing a valuable community resource.

Camden City Garden Club, Inc.  $25,000. The Camden City Children's Garden provides horticultural experiences for the local Camden City Community.  A cornerstone of the Garden's work is its Youth Education and Job Training program for Camden youth at risk between the ages of 14-22.  Youth involved with the program are employed full-time in the Summer and part-time during the school year.  The program assists youth in graduating high school, offers valuable employment, and provides an unparalleled community resource. CCSF is proud to support the Garden's work in Camden because of its focus on providing education and job experience to Camden youth and also significantly contributing to the overall well-being of the local Camden community.

Family Support Services, Inc.  $14,976.  Family Support Services and its program, Family School, provide an intensive and unique positive parenting education program for families overcoming histories of child maltreatment and/or child neglect. The goal of Family School is to help break the trans-generational cycle of often unintentional neglect and to address parenting ignorance among marginalized families.  CCSF's funding supports the food costs associated with a food and nutritional education program that is central to the Family Support Services offerings.  CCSF's recognized the work done at Family School as a unique opportunity to fund youth in an indirect but terrifically important way.  CCSF believes that by helping reconnect parents with children and nurture good parenting, the children and families involved will stand a far greater chance of succeeding in the future.

Project Learn School$9,750.  CCSF's continued support of Project Learn School signifies our confidence in the impact and effectiveness of Project Learn's Saturday Outreach Program.  Funded initially in 2006 with a grant from CCSF of $24,850, Project Learn's program has successfully expanded to three weekends per month of community outreach programming.  Classes in art, cooking, and writing are offered free of charge to the local community as well as current Project Learn students. CCSF is proud to offer our continued support to Project Learn because we believe that such work is integral to our mission of supporting community education in Camden and Philadelphia.
